Montgomery, AL – Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall convened a specialized training session today for law enforcement officers and federal partners focused on identifying and countering campus extremism and antisemitism. The event, held in collaboration with George Washington University and the Chabad of Alabama, aimed to provide participants with current, evidence-based insights into extremist movements in the United States.
The training addressed concerns about a rise in antisemitic violence, particularly in academic settings. “We are witnessing a disturbing surge in violent attacks against Jewish Americans by radical extremists—an unacceptable and growing threat unfolding right here at home,” said Attorney General Marshall in a statement. He emphasized the importance of equipping campus administrators and law enforcement with tools to address these challenges.
The first session, titled “Campus Extremism and Hamas in the United States,” was led by retired FBI Special Agent and terrorism researcher Lara Burns. She presented findings from federal cases and internal documents to highlight indicators of extremist activity tied to Hamas.
The second presentation came from David Zimmerman, a retired FBI Supervisory Special Agent and Senior Research Fellow. Drawing on his service in Israel during and after the October 7, 2023, terrorist attacks, Zimmerman offered insight into the broader implications of international terrorism on domestic security.
The event is part of Attorney General Marshall’s ongoing efforts to strengthen Alabama’s approach to national security issues, including the protection of vulnerable communities and institutions across the state.
