Do you think your dog is the cutest, biggest, sweetest, or even smartest? Well come join the Jacksonville Parks and Recreation along with Encore Enrichment Center for Shelter Dogs on October 28th at 2:30 pm. PARD and Encore are raising awareness and supplies for our local shelter dogs by hosting a “Bark in the Park” event.  This event has been held by PARD for almost 10 years, but it is has normally been a summer event but this year, in consideration of both the two legged and four legged, PARD is shifting to a new fall annual event.

The entrance fee to attend is either a can of dog food, a bag of treats, a toy, or bedding.  All food will be donated to the Calhoun County Humane Society (CCHS) on Parkwood; the CCHS handles all dogs and cats recovered in Jacksonville. All toys and training items will be split between the CCHS and Encore.  This event will be held at the Germania Springs Dog Park, which is located on the North side of Hwy 21. All are invited regardless of whether they have a dog or simply want to join in this family friendly fun day.

For those who would like to bring their furry friends, you may enter up to three events for each animal that accompanies you. A few of the events available will be largest dog, smallest dog, most beautiful, most handsome, scariest costume, best costume, best trick, and more; the judges for the events will be from the Encore Enrichment Center.  All winners will receive certificates or ribbons.  After the contests are over please feel free to stay and enjoy the doggie park on your own as well.

Registration will begin at 1:30 pm and there will also be an information booth provided by Encore Enrichment Center. For more information please feel free to contact Jacksonville PARD at 256-435-8115.  For information on Encore Enrichment Center for Shelter dogs please visit www.encoreenrichmentcenter.org or call 256-403-0723.
