Calhoun County Commission Honors Red Ribbon Week at October Meeting

County Commision

Anniston, AL – The Calhoun County Commission held its regular meeting on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at 10 a.m. in the Commission Chambers, featuring a historic unveiling of the new county seal, the presentation of a proclamation for Red Ribbon Week, and a series of board appointments and administrative approvals.

New County Seal and Historical Context

The meeting began with a special presentation introducing Calhoun County’s new official seal, designed to highlight the area’s unique natural heritage. Dr. David West, County Extension Coordinator, spoke about the importance of the longleaf pine—featured prominently in the new seal—and its historical and ecological significance to the region.

Former Commissioner Robert Downing and local designer Greg Morrow recounted the original seal concept, which originated from a student art contest over 15 years ago. Graphic designer Tanya Wilson later digitized and refined the design. The Commission formally adopted the new county seal and accompanying branding guidelines by resolution, marking a milestone in the county’s visual identity.
