Calhoun County, AL – Calhoun County School District is celebrating a historic milestone, earning an overall state report card score of 87 — the highest in district history. The achievement marks a significant step forward for the district’s 18 schools and underscores the collective efforts of students, faculty, and the community.
Four schools — Pleasant Valley High School, Saks High School, Walter Wellborn Elementary School, and White Plains Elementary School — each improved their individual report card scores by four points, demonstrating notable academic growth.
In addition to these gains, the district is also celebrating its first increase in student enrollment in two decades. For the 2025–2026 school year, 7,682 students are registered, not including preschool enrollment. This places Calhoun County among fewer than 20 school systems statewide experiencing student population growth.
District leaders also cited encouraging outcomes from the Alabama Comprehensive Assessment Program (ACAP) and English Language Learner (ELL) progress measures, with improvements seen in both English Language Arts and Math performance.
Superintendent Tony Willis praised the district’s unified effort, stating, “We are incredibly proud of the progress our schools have made over the past year and are excited to build on that momentum in the years ahead. These achievements are the result of the dedication and teamwork of our entire district family — from administrators, teachers, and support staff across our 18 schools to our outstanding maintenance, transportation, and technology teams. With more than 1,300 employees working together toward a common goal, our success truly reflects the strength of our entire community.”
With its highest report card score to date and continued academic progress, Calhoun County School District reaffirms its mission to empower students for lifelong success.
