Calhoun County, AL – All students enrolled in Calhoun County Schools will receive free breakfast and lunch during the 2025-2026 school year, with no paperwork or income verification required. The announcement marks a significant step forward in the district’s efforts to promote equity and support student well-being.
The free meal program will apply to every student attending schools in Alexandria, Ohatchee, Pleasant Valley, Saks, Wellborn, Weaver, and White Plains, across all elementary, middle, and high school campuses. By removing financial and administrative barriers, district leaders aim to ensure that every student has reliable access to nutritious meals, which can have a direct impact on academic performance, behavior, and health.
School Board President Michael Webb praised the development, noting that it fulfills a long-standing goal. “When I first ran for the school board 7 years ago this was a program that I wanted us to implement,” Webb said. “However, at that time there were some red tape issues that we could not overcome. Thanks to some changes made at the federal level and to the hard work of Mrs. Jennings and her staff we are now able to provide free meals for all of our students. There are so many children in our schools that the only meals they receive are these school meals. I am thankful that we are able to provide this service.”
District officials emphasized that providing universal access to meals not only reduces the burden on families but also removes the stigma often associated with free or reduced lunch programs. The initiative reflects a broader commitment to supporting the whole student—academically, emotionally, and physically.
