Calhoun County, AL – The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating recent property crimes and is calling on the public for help. By encouraging community involvement, the Sheriff’s Office hopes to improve public safety and hold those accountable for these criminal activities.
Property Crime: On Aug. 26, deputies were dispatched to K&S Grocery on Roy Webb Road in Jacksonville in reference to some property damage to the outer wall of the store. A staff member at the store told deputies that sometime between closing hours and the following morning, the outer wall on the north side of the building was damaged, leaving a hole from the outside of the building into the store’s bathroom. The cause of the damage remains unclear, though it appeared consistent with an attempted break‑in. Nothing inside the store seemed disturbed. The damage is estimated at around $1,000.
Catch of the Week: On Sunday, August 30, around 2:30 p.m., Calhoun County deputies were patrolling the Oxford area looking for Patrick Mullinax, who was wanted on an active warrant out of Talladega County. Deputies spotted Mullinax’s vehicle on Highway 78 and attempted to make a traffic stop. Instead of pulling over, Mullinax took off at a high rate of speed, leading deputies on a pursuit. The pursuit continued from Oxford to the White Plains community and eventually came to an end when Mullinax abandoned his vehicle and tried to flee on foot. Deputies continued the pursuit with assistance from the Oxford Police Department, and Mullinax was quickly taken into custody. In addition to the outstanding warrant that started it all, Mullinax now faces a felony charge of attempting to elude and a charge of resisting arrest. I would also like to thank our deputies and the officers of the Oxford Police Department for their great teamwork and quick response that brought a dangerous situation to a safe conclusion.
