Oxford city Spokeswoman, Lorie Denton shared that the Oxford High School Green Power team is leading the national rankings in each division and will face off against other competing teams again here in Oxford, AL, this weekend in the Choccolocco Green Prix at Choccolocco Park-the fastest course on the Green Power USA circuit!

Thirty-four teams from across the south will invade Oxford Friday and Saturday, bringing more than 400 participating students involved in competitive electric car racing.

On January 14th and 15th, Choccolocco Park will again play host to the Choccolocco Green Prix. The inaugural Choccolocco Green Prix in January of 2020 hosted over 400 middle and high school students from across the country.

Participating students designed and built electric race cars as part of the Green Power USA engineering program designed to increase student interest and skill level in math, science, and engineering. Through the program, students develop skill sets in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, CAD Design, Additive Manufacturing, Data Acquisition, Data Analysis, Communication, Adaptability, Organization, and Resource Management. Our very own Oxford City School’s Green Power program has three participating schools with seven cars. The CE Hanna team (5th and 6th grade) will be competing in their first season with a Goblin car, Oxford Middle School (7th and 8th grade) will be competing with three cars (2 in the stock division, 1 in the modified division), and Oxford High School will be competing with three cars as well (1 in the stock division, 1 in the modified division, and one in the custom division). In the last Green Power USA competition season (2019/2020), Oxford High School won a National Championship in the modified division and will be racing at Choccolocco Park this weekend defending their title.

The Goblin races will be held on Friday, with stock, modified, and custom racing taking place throughout the day Saturday.
