OXFORD, AL — Residents seeking information about community services, educational opportunities, healthcare resources, disaster preparedness and other assistance programs will have an opportunity to connect with local organizations during the upcoming Community Resource Fair hosted by the Calhoun County Area Chamber & Visitors Center and its Economic Inclusion Committee.
The event is scheduled for Wednesday, June 17, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Quintard Mall in Oxford.
According to organizers, the fair is designed to connect individuals and families with organizations that provide services ranging from workforce development and housing assistance to veterans programs and emergency preparedness resources. More than a dozen Chamber member organizations are expected to participate.
Tanisha Greene, chair of the Economic Inclusion Committee, said the event aims to help residents learn about resources available throughout Calhoun County.
“The Economic Inclusion Committee is proud to announce our first ever Community Resource Fair, in an effort to connect our community with resources available to them,” Greene said. “We are so excited to share what Calhoun County has to offer its residents.”
Ashlee Jones, communications director for the Calhoun County Area Chamber & Visitors Center, said the committee identified a growing need to make residents aware of assistance programs and services available in the community.
“The [Economic Inclusion] Committee recognized a growing need in our community as affordability of day-to-day expenses continues to rise,” Jones said. “It’s our hope that the [Community Resource] Fair can help residents fill that gap in these additional expenses by working with these partnering Chamber members so they can thrive.”
Organizations expected to participate include:
- 2nd Chance, Inc. – Domestic violence assistance
- Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services – Disability and workforce accessibility services
- Calhoun County EMA – Disaster preparedness and tornado shelter information
- Community Enabler Developer – Financial and food assistance
- Gadsden State Community College Adult Education and Skills Training Divisions – Workforce development and job training
- Rod Lemon Foundation – Veterans assistance programming
- United Way of East Central Alabama – Housing insecurity assistance, youth diversion programming and workforce development
Additional participating organizations include the Calhoun County Commission, Tri-County Crisis Services, Hope Family Services, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Alabama, Health Services Center Substance Use Department, Quality of Life Health Services and the Alabama National Guard Family Program.
Organizers encourage community members to attend and learn more about the programs and services available to individuals and families throughout Calhoun County.
