  • Proclamation – Be Kind Day (Mental Illness Awareness Day) – Tim Hodges presented the official proclamation that May 20th will be Mental Health Awareness Day. The proclamation was presented in honor of Stewart Chandler. Commissioner Hodges acknowledged that more work is needed for mental health in the schools, jails, and hospitals.

He also let the Commission know of the health issues that were impeding the progress. District Commissioner Henderson spoke up and thanked the owner for the effort and the commission stated they would have no issues working with him because he is making an effort.  – Unanimously Accepted

    • Examiners Contract to Audit Federal Awards – Contract amount $16,168 – Unanimously Accepted

    • Coosa Valley RC&D Grant Application Resolution – This resolution is for $7,000 for playground equipment. – Unanimously Accepted

    • Courthouse Re-roofing Change Order #2 – Concrete Pavers – Unanimously Accepted
    • 911 District Board Appointment – The option was to reinstate Tony Taylor or move forward with a different appointment. Tim Hodges suggested John Blue and the appointment was seconded then voted upon – Unanimously Accepted

  • Public Comments
    • Kim Boyd from the Calhoun Chamber of Commerce spoke. She also reported for Audrey Maxwell who is on vacation. She discussed that the Iron Mountain Pass ribbon cutting was a success and thanked Commissioners Hess and Patterson for attending. She mentioned the Ohio Valley Softball Conference on May 12-15. She mentioned the upcoming Cheaha Challenge on May 15-16. She discussed the US Canine Biathlon on May 15-16th. She also talked about the 60th Freedom Ride Anniversary. There will be a virtual program that can be viewed on Facebook live through the City of Anniston’s page. There is also a display at the Greyhound Station that is open to the public from 10:00 am – 5:00 pm. She also discussed the horse trails that are opening this summer. Commissioner Hess also talked about the 80+ horse trailers that came to the Horse Event that recently took on Saturday. He also mentioned he spoke with Mr. Smiley with Alabama Power about getting power to the campgrounds. 
    • Commissioner Hodges  wanted to acknowledge that Commissioner Fred Wilson will be speaking at the Freedom Riders event and all commissioner’s were invited. He also mentioned that JSU will be playing at Choccolocco Park.
    • Commissioner Carolyn Henderson wanted to speak to the code enforcement officer to thank him for all the work he does and the speed at responding to her requests. She also apologized for putting so much on him. She stated she appreciated what he does.
