Dry Branch Wildfire in the Dugger Mountain Wilderness area in the Talladega National Forest

Montgomery, AL – Fire management specialists from the USDA Forest Service have confirmed that the Dry Branch Wildfire, which ignited in the Dugger Mountain Wilderness area of the Talladega National Forest, Shoal Creek Ranger District, is now 100 percent contained as of March 21, 2024. After diligent efforts by firefighting crews, fire operations were successfully completed, bringing the total acreage burned to 892 acres.

While the containment of the wildfire is a significant achievement, monitoring efforts will persist as crews continue to keep a close watch on the area. Despite containment, there remains some interior burning, which may result in visible smoke along Forest Service Road 500, Forest Service Road 500 K, and Rabbittown Road.

In light of the containment progress, authorities have reopened the Pinhoti Trail, allowing hikers and outdoor enthusiasts to once again enjoy this scenic route through the forest. However, the public is advised to exercise caution and remain vigilant while in the vicinity, as there may still be residual smoke and potential hazards in the area.

For any additional inquiries or concerns regarding the Dry Branch Wildfire and its aftermath, the public is encouraged to contact the Talladega National Forests, Shoal Creek Ranger District at 256-362-2909. Authorities remain committed to providing assistance and information to ensure the safety and well-being of all forest visitors.
