Montgomery, AL – Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall confirmed that an explosive device was detonated outside the Alabama Attorney General’s Office building in Montgomery. Attorney General Marshall stated, “In the early hours of Saturday, February 24, an explosive device was detonated outside of the Alabama Attorney General’s Office building in Montgomery. Thankfully, no staff or personnel were injured by the explosion. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency will be leading the investigation, and we are urging anyone with information to contact them immediately.”
On Monday, February 26, at approximately 8:19 a.m., Special Agents with ALEA’s State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) received notification of a suspicious package near the intersection of Washington Avenue and South Bainbridge Street in Montgomery. It was determined that the suspicious package was an explosive device that had been detonated in the early morning hours of Saturday, February 24.
No injuries or damage to nearby buildings have been reported. However, the incident has prompted a swift and comprehensive response from law enforcement agencies. Troopers from ALEA’s Protective Services Division, Special Agents from ALEA’s Hazardous Device Unit (HDU), along with Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and Officers from the Montgomery Police Department quickly mobilized to secure the area and ensure public safety.
