GADSDEN, AL — The Gadsden State Cardinal Foundation has announced new leadership for its Board of Directors, naming Tony Smith as board president and Sheri Rollins as vice president.
Smith succeeds retired U.S. Air Force Maj. Gen. Eric Crabtree, who previously served as board president. Rollins joins Smith in leading the Foundation as it continues its efforts to expand scholarship opportunities, strengthen academic and workforce development programs, and build partnerships that support the mission of Gadsden State Community College.
Smith has served on the Cardinal Foundation Board of Directors since 2024 and most recently held the position of vice president. In his new role, he will work with Foundation directors and college leadership to advance philanthropic initiatives that benefit students and the communities served by Gadsden State.
“I am truly excited to step into this role and serve as president of the Cardinal Foundation at such an important time for Gadsden State Community College,” Smith said. “Every day, our college opens doors, helping people take that next step toward a better future.”
Smith said the Foundation helps remove barriers for students by supporting scholarships, strengthening educational programs, and partnering with donors and community organizations to expand opportunities across the college’s service area.
Smith is the Manager of Customer Service for Etowah and Blount Counties with Alabama Power Company, where he has worked since 1996. He also serves on several community boards, including the Etowah Chamber of Commerce, United Way of Etowah County, the Etowah County Personnel Board, and the Challenger Learning Center.
Rollins currently serves as district director for Congressman Mike Rogers’ Alabama Third Congressional District office, a position she has held since 2007. Her career spans more than 35 years in public service, constituent relations, and community engagement.
As district director, Rollins oversees two district offices and manages a team serving the 11 counties of Alabama’s Third Congressional District. Foundation officials said her experience and community relationships will help strengthen partnerships throughout the region.

Hillary Folsom, director of Advancement and Alumni Relations at Gadsden State, said Smith and Rollins bring leadership experience and a shared commitment to student success.
“Tony and Sheri bring an exceptional combination of leadership, community relationships, and a shared passion for student success,” Folsom said. “Their experience and commitment to serving our region will help the Cardinal Foundation continue building partnerships that expand educational opportunities, strengthen our workforce, and create a lasting impact for our students.”
The Foundation also recognized Crabtree for his service as board president, noting that the organization continued to strengthen its support for student success and philanthropic initiatives during his tenure.
The Cardinal Foundation is a nonprofit organization that supports Gadsden State Community College through private donations and community partnerships. Funding from the Foundation provides scholarships, supports academic and workforce development programs, funds special initiatives, and helps reduce financial barriers for students.
