Scholarships available this summer for select career technical programs

Gadsden, AL – Gadsden State Community College is extending a helping hand to students pursuing career technical programs by offering scholarships and a reimbursement program. Applications for these opportunities will be accepted through May 29, providing students with a chance to enhance their skills and advance their careers.

Alan Smith, the dean of Workforce Development at Gadsden State, emphasized the importance of these programs in preparing students for lucrative employment opportunities. “Our programs train students for high-demand, high-wage employment,” said Smith. “We provide them with practical skills and knowledge that are essential for their chosen careers. Through scholarships, we are investing in nurturing talent and fostering skilled professionals.”

Students enrolled in the Electrical Technology or the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Program are eligible for scholarships valued at $1,000 and $2,000, respectively, to assist with tuition expenses. To apply, students can visit GadsdenState.edu/Scholarships and access the 2023-24 General Scholarship Application. It’s imperative for applicants to notify their instructors of their application and email their name and student number to gmartin@gadsdenstate.edu.

Gadsden State, in collaboration with the Alabama Community College System, is also offering the Short-Term Credential Scholarship. This opportunity is available to Alabama residents seeking reimbursement for expenses associated with enrolling in and completing a short-term credential program. These programs, available for both for-credit and non-credit courses, include offerings from the Workforce Development Division and Skills Training Division and can typically be completed in two semesters or less.

“This is a reimbursement scholarship, so students will need to pay upfront, but they will be completely reimbursed once they receive a credential,” explained Smith.

Students meeting the eligibility criteria will be reimbursed up to $4,500 for qualifying educational expenses related to the short-term credential program. These expenses may encompass tuition, fees, books, credentialing fees, materials, and supplies.

For inquiries or further information, students are encouraged to contact Gina Martin in the Workforce Development division at 256.549.8600. Don’t miss this opportunity to invest in your future and advance your career with the support of Gadsden State Community College. Apply now and take the first step towards a rewarding and fulfilling profession.
