Gadsden State Awarded $50,000 Gene Haas Foundation Grant

GADSDEN, AL — Gadsden State Community College has received a $50,000 scholarship grant from the Gene Haas Foundation to provide financial assistance to students enrolled in Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machining and engineering programs with an emphasis on CNC technology.

According to the college, the funding will help reduce financial barriers for students pursuing careers in advanced manufacturing. The grant will support scholarships, student toolkits, manufacturing-related training opportunities and participation in industry competitions.

Dr. Dana Davis, dean of Institutional Effectiveness, Grants and Special Projects, said the grant represents an investment in both students and the region’s manufacturing workforce.

“The continued support of the Gene Haas Foundation is an investment in both our students and the future of manufacturing in our region,” Davis said. “This funding allows us to help more students gain the skills, experience and credentials needed to enter Alabama’s growing advanced manufacturing workforce.”

The Gene Haas Foundation states that scholarship awards typically range from $500 to $2,500 per student. Grant funds may also be used to provide machining toolkits, support participation in SkillsUSA and other approved CNC competitions, and introduce prospective students to manufacturing careers through camps and training programs.

Andy Robertson, dean of Workforce Development, said the grant expands opportunities for students entering one of Alabama’s high-demand industries.

“Manufacturing employers are looking for highly skilled CNC machinists and technicians,” Robertson said. “This grant helps ensure our students have access to the resources they need to complete their training and enter the workforce with confidence.”

The Gene Haas Foundation supports manufacturing education programs throughout North America by funding scholarships, CNC education and workforce development initiatives. Gadsden State has received support from the foundation for several years to assist students pursuing careers in machining, engineering and advanced manufacturing.

Students interested in Gadsden State’s manufacturing and engineering programs can find additional information through the college’s Workforce Development Division.
