GADSDEN, AL — Gadsden State Community College will host a special celebration on Monday, July 7, to honor its 100-year legacy and recognize 65 years of educational impact at the Valley Street Campus. The event will take place at 11:00 a.m. in the Job Corps Gym, located at 600 Valley Street in Gadsden.
The Valley Street Campus, a key part of Gadsden State’s history, was established in 1960 as the Gadsden Vocational Trade School. Originally a private institution focused on providing vocational training for African Americans, the campus evolved into Gadsden State Technical Institute in 1972. It joined Gadsden State Community College in 1985 through a historic merger.
In 1997, the Valley Street Campus received designation as a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) from the U.S. Department of Education. A year later, it began participating in the Department’s Title III Program, which supports capacity-building initiatives at HBCUs.
Monday’s event will feature guest speakers, campus tours, historical exhibits, and opportunities for alumni, faculty, and community members to reconnect. Light refreshments will be served.
The celebration is part of Gadsden State’s ongoing Centennial Campaign, which highlights the institution’s commitment to education, inclusion, and community development.
