Gadsden, AL – Students and staff from Gadsden State Community College’s Valley Street Campus recently attended the three-day Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) Workforce Development Summit held November 13–16 in Birmingham. The annual event brought together students from TMCF’s 10 two-year historically Black community colleges (HBCCs) for career development, networking and professional training.
The summit featured sessions focused on workforce readiness, industry trends and strategies for long-term career success. Students also participated in a career fair that connected them with leading employers across multiple sectors. Throughout the event, attendees had opportunities to engage with industry professionals, explore a range of career pathways and gain insight into evolving workforce needs.
Three Gadsden State Valley Street students were awarded scholarships during the conference:

Jonathon Moody, Construction Technology — $5,000 Toyota Scholarship

Mya Mostella, Diagnostic Medical Sonography — $10,000 Cal & Annette Johnson HBCC Scholarship

Shasta Webb, Diagnostic Medical Sonography — $10,000 Cal & Annette Johnson HBCC Scholarship
