Upon hearing the news that the Colonial Pipeline was shutting down production on May 9, 2021 people have been hoarding gasoline. Colonial Pipeline announced that it was a victim of a cyber attack, that we have learned from the FBI, originated in Russia.
The good news is today Colonial Pipeline issued a press release that at approximately 5:00 pm they have initiated the restart of normal operations. In the press release they advised it will take “several days” for the product delivery supply chain to return to normal. They stated that they will move as much gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel as possible and will continue until the markets return to normal.
At least 11 states were effected by the pipeline shutdown. Alabama was minimally hurt per reports. Gas Buddy website is advising that North Carolina is experiencing 65% of gas stations being out of fuel, but Alabama is only at 7%. The least hit by the shutdown was Kentucky with only 2% being out of fuel.
This situation is rapidly coming to an end so the driving population of Calhoun County can rest easy that there is no fuel outage and all services should be back to 100% within the next two weeks.
