Montgomery, AL — Kay Ivey has announced the awarding of $800,000 in grants to support narcotics investigations and drug-related crime enforcement across Alabama.
The funding includes $100,000 allocations to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and each of the state’s seven regional task forces that collectively form the Alabama Drug Enforcement Task Force. ALEA oversees the statewide initiative, while the regional task forces are composed of officers from various local law enforcement agencies, giving them authority to pursue narcotics cases throughout Alabama.
“The Drug Enforcement Task Force is a great benefit to Alabama’s law enforcement community, allowing local agencies from around the state to coordinate and share resources, all in the name of keeping our communities safe,” Ivey said. “I am pleased to award these funds to support the task force’s mission of apprehending traffickers and taking illegal drugs off the street.”
According to ALEA, the task force reported 908 arrests in 2025 and confiscated approximately $490,000, along with various illegal drugs and substances.
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grants using funds provided by the U.S. Department of Justice. ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell also expressed support for the initiative.
“ADECA joins Gov. Ivey in support of the officers who work tirelessly to arrest dangerous criminals and rid communities of drugs,” Boswell said. “This initiative strengthens public safety throughout the state.”
ADECA manages a range of programs across Alabama, including those focused on law enforcement, victim services, economic development, water resources, energy conservation, and recreation.
