Governor Ivey Announces $23.2 Million in SEEDS Grants to Boost Alabama’s Economic Growth

MONTGOMERY, AL – Governor Kay Ivey announced Tuesday that the third round of applications for Alabama’s Site Evaluation and Economic Development Strategy (SEEDS) grant program will open on July 1, 2025. A total of $23.2 million in funding will be made available to support site assessment and development efforts across the state.

The SEEDS program is a joint initiative of the Alabama Department of Commerce and the Economic Development Partnership of Alabama (EDPA). It is designed to enhance Alabama’s inventory of industrial sites and improve the state’s ability to attract major economic development projects.

Communities interested in applying for SEEDS funding will be able to do so through a portal on the EDPA website beginning July 1. The application period will remain open until September 30, 2025.

The first two rounds of SEEDS grants supported 56 sites across Alabama. These grants have been used to assist local governments and economic development organizations in advancing site readiness for industrial use.

The upcoming round will offer two types of grants: site assessment grants for evaluating new or underutilized properties, and site development grants for implementing improvements that enhance a site’s readiness for industrial development.

State leaders say the program is part of a broader strategy to prepare Alabama communities for long-term economic growth.

Questions about the program or consultation requests can be directed to Greg Blalock at the EDPA.
