New District Attorney Named

Montgomery, AL – Governor Kay Ivey has made a significant appointment by naming C. Lynn Hammond as the District Attorney for Calhoun and Cleburne Counties, comprising the Seventh Judicial Circuit. Hammond, who has been an integral part of the district attorney’s office since 1994, will be stepping into the role left vacant by the retirement of Brian McVeigh earlier this month. McVeigh’s term was unfinished, with five years remaining, following his re-election in 2022. The oath of office was administered by Circuit Judge Jennifer Weems, and the courtroom witnessed a gathering of judges, colleagues, and members of the legal community.

In response to her appointment, Hammond expressed her deep sense of honor and humility. She highlighted the significance of being appointed by Governor Kay Ivey, whom she views as a role model, and being sworn in by Judge Jennifer Weems, whom she deeply admires and respects. Hammond’s appointment also marks a historic moment as she becomes the first woman to hold this esteemed office. She reiterated her commitment to the citizens of Calhoun and Cleburne counties, emphasizing the vigorous pursuit of justice for those who violate the law and the advocacy for crime victims to ensure their recovery.
