MONTGOMERY — Governor Kay Ivey has issued a proclamation recognizing Alabama’s manufacturing industry in observance of National “Made in the USA” Day on July 2, highlighting the sector’s role in the state’s economy and workforce.
According to the governor’s office, Alabama’s manufacturing industry employs more than 280,000 workers across more than 4,000 businesses statewide. The sector includes a wide range of industries, including automotive manufacturing, aerospace, shipbuilding, pharmaceuticals and advanced manufacturing.
“On ‘Made in the USA’ Day, we honor the hundreds of thousands of hardworking Alabamians from the Shoals to the Shore who drive our state’s growing economy while delivering ‘Made in Alabama’ products across the nation and around the world,” Governor Ivey said.
Alabama Department of Commerce Secretary Ellen McNair said the state’s manufacturing industry continues to diversify and expand.
“From auto manufacturing to Navy ship building to space rockets, cutting edge pharmaceuticals and more, Alabama is an increasingly influential part of the U.S. and world economy,” McNair said. “There is no limit to what Alabamians can do or limit to their imaginations.”
State officials pointed to recent economic development announcements, including the planned $6 billion advanced manufacturing facility in Huntsville by Eli Lilly, announced in late 2025. The project is described as the largest initial economic development investment in Alabama history and is expected to strengthen the state’s biotechnology and advanced manufacturing sectors.
Manufactured goods also remain a significant contributor to Alabama’s exports. State officials reported that exports exceeded $23 billion in 2025, with motor vehicles representing the state’s largest export category. Alabama also ranks second nationally in auto exports.
Since 2017, Governor Ivey said Alabama has attracted nearly $70 billion in capital investment and created more than 100,000 jobs. She also highlighted workforce development initiatives aimed at preparing residents for careers in high-skill manufacturing fields.
“As we expand our impact on the national economy, Alabamians can take great pride in being key players in bringing back ‘Made in America,'” Ivey said.
