Jacksonville City Board of Education Holds October 29 Meeting

Jacksonville, AL – The Jacksonville City Board of Education convened its regular meeting on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, in the Central Office Boardroom. The session opened with a prayer by Pastor Moore and the Pledge of Allegiance before moving into official business.

Board members approved the agenda and minutes from the September 4 and September 8 meetings. No public comments were presented. The finance report, given by Mrs. Blount, detailed the district’s financial statements as of August 31, 2025, with a combined reconciled balance of approximately $8.49 million. She noted that the total includes about $2 million in state funds for the FY26 fiscal year that were received early.

The board unanimously approved the recommendation to accept the financial statements and accounts payable for August 2025.

Superintendent Dr. Barber expressed appreciation to board members for attending a mid-day “retreat” earlier in the day, where department heads and principals shared program updates. He thanked them for their commitment and recognized the city council members in attendance.

The board approved Policy 6.70.61, which establishes paid parental leave for Jacksonville City Schools employees. Dr. Barber noted that several staff members have already benefited from the new policy, which took effect July 1. He also presented Proposed Policy 5.85, addressing vaping awareness, education, and prevention, as an informational item for future consideration.

Additionally, the board approved revisions to the 2025–2026 supplement schedule, officially naming Sean Hudgins as the district’s safety coordinator. Dr. Barber praised Hudgins’ ongoing efforts in technology-based safety initiatives, compliance monitoring, and coordination with law enforcement.

The board approved personnel items A through F as presented. Later, Mr. Canady was selected to serve as the board’s delegate for the 2025 Alabama Association of School Boards (AASB) Annual Convention, with Mrs. Watson named as alternate.

Board members shared their gratitude toward faculty, staff, and administrators for their dedication and the comprehensive updates shared during the earlier session. Several members also congratulated the cross-country team for recent state-level wins and noted that upcoming meetings will feature student recognitions for achievements in athletics and academics.

The next regular board meeting is scheduled for November 13, 2025, at 6 p.m. in the Central Office Boardroom.
