JACKSONVILLE, AL — The Jacksonville City Council held its organizational meeting Monday morning at City Hall, marking the beginning of a new term for the city’s leadership. Probate Judge Millwood administered the oaths of office. Mayor Jones thanked residents for their continued support and praised the dedication of those stepping into leadership roles. “It’s a great honor and a great responsibility,” Jones said, noting the importance of patience and understanding from family members as their loved ones balance civic duties with personal commitments.

Following the swearing-in, council members moved into their first official meeting of the term. Terry Wilson was unanimously elected Council President, and Sherry Laster was elected President Pro-Tempore.

During the meeting, the council ratified the use of current municipal fund depositories and approved several ordinances amending sections of the city’s code related to administrative procedures (Ordinance Nos. O-673-26, O-674-26, and O-675-26).

A series of resolutions then confirmed key city appointments:

  • Brenda Long as City Clerk

  • Scott Calhoun as City Treasurer

  • Marcus Wood as Police Chief

  • Keith Kadle as Fire Chief

  • Richard Rhea as City Attorney and acting City Prosecutor

  • William J. Miller, P.C. as Public Defender

  • Jason C. Odom as Municipal Judge

The council authorized the mayor to approve purchases and contracts up to $7,500 without prior council approval and approved an annual expense account for the mayor as set in the budget.

Before adjournment, Council President Wilson thanked members for their confidence and expressed enthusiasm about working collaboratively with Mayor Jones and city department heads. Both Chiefs Kadle and Wood were commended for their ongoing service and leadership in the city’s public safety departments.
