Jacksonville, AL – The Jacksonville City Schools Board of Education met Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. in the Central Office Board Room for its regularly scheduled meeting. Board members approved financial items, adopted a new policy, and recognized several students for their achievements.
The meeting opened with a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance led by Jacksonville High School student Maya Swain.
Following roll call, the board approved the meeting agenda and the minutes from the February 17, 2026 Jacksonville City Schools Board meeting.
Student Recognitions
During the recognitions portion of the meeting, several students were honored with the Soaring Eagle Award. The award is given to students nominated by members of the faculty for demonstrating exceptional character, academic commitment, and a positive impact on their school community.
Students recognized included:

Shannon Noel, a senior nominated by English teacher Sherry Dierman. Noel was recognized for his positive attitude, leadership, and commitment to excellence. He participates in football, track and field, the National Honor Society, and the National Technical Honor Society while maintaining a 3.7 GPA and volunteering to help feed the homeless during Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Liana Martin, an eighth-grade student nominated by math teacher Alan Adair. Martin was commended for assisting classmates during math class and for her involvement in junior varsity softball, choir programs, and the National Junior Honor Society.

Chloe Buchanan, a junior nominated by AP Research teacher Elizabeth Green. Buchanan was recognized for her leadership and academic achievements while participating in varsity cheerleading and multiple student organizations and maintaining a 3.8 GPA.

Callie Walker, an eighth grader nominated by volleyball coach Amber Russell. Walker participates in volleyball, basketball, and soccer and is a member of the National Junior Honor Society and the Exchange Club.
The board approved several financial items for February 2026, including accounts payable, payroll, and monthly financial statements.
During the superintendent’s report and new business, the board approved the adoption of Jacksonville City Schools Policy 6.25, the Teachers’ Bill of Rights.
Board members also approved the 2026 social studies and arts education textbook adoption, aligning with the district’s curriculum requirements.
Personnel items presented by the superintendent were also approved.
District leaders shared updates on several activities taking place across the school system.
Jacksonville City Schools recently hosted its largest track meet to date, with 13 schools participating. Administrators also highlighted the success of students from Kitty Stone Elementary at the Science Olympiad competition, where the team placed first.
Additional updates included district initiatives focused on mental health support, academic preparation opportunities for students, and partnerships with community organizations.
Board members also discussed preparations for the upcoming Special Olympics event scheduled for April 8, which Jacksonville will host and expects to bring significant participation to the area.
The next Jacksonville City Schools Board of Education meeting is scheduled for April 20, 2026, at 5:30 p.m.
