  • Acceptance of minutes.
  • S&ME Drainage Study – Presented findings of study conducted on Cotton Creek subdivision drainage issues. Cotton Creek is split between city and county jurisdiction. An area of 288 acres is drained into the basin and culvert crossings under James Hopkins and the subdivision. Proposed options for helping divert rainwater and alleviate issues. Council had an opportunity to ask questions and the public as well.
  • Tim Smith – Wants to bring ongoing awareness to cyber crime and phishing. Asks the council to make it clear to the public that they will not ask for personal, private information.
  • MOU With Federal Bureau of Investigation North Alabama Violent Crime Task Force – Chief Wood would like to set an agreement with Gadsden to be able to have extra support when needed.
  • Spyglass Snapshot Audit Agreement. Cost consulting firm to conduct an audit about recurring telecommunication bills. Free to the city to find cost savings that would then be split with the Spyglass company for the first year of cost reductions.
  • Proposed Frogtown Creek Side Park. Choice of 2 architects for building of proposed park. He broke it down by costs for each company.
  • Any other business. The Mayor says that the company rebuilding the Profile Mill wants to buy the property mentioned in the last meeting for their use of trails and recreation.
  • Chief Wood requests 2 corrections officers to have 24 hour coverage of the inmates, as discussed in item 10 of the agenda.

  • Consider action to authorize the Mayor to sign the Memorandum of Understanding with the Federal Bureau of Investigation North Alabama Violent Crime Task Force, per the attached. – Unanimously Accepted

    • Brandi Michelle Woodard, Police Officer, Range 18, effective upon compliance with Ordinance #273, due to the promotion of Robert Franklin Green. – Unanimously Accepted

    • Christian Lopez, Full-Time Firefighter/EMT, Range 11A, effective June 30, 2021, due to the resignation of Buddy Dalton Martin (Jairius Mitcheam declined the offer.) – Unanimously Accepted

    • Nancy Gillespie with the Jacksonville Arts Council thanked the council members for their support and participation for the Fair at the Square on Saturday June 26th.

  • Mayor’s report.
    • Jax Fest is on Saturday July 3 at the Jacksonville High School Football Stadium from 6-9pm. There will be a band and fireworks at 9pm. It is free admission and sponsored by the City of Jacksonville.
    • City offices are closed Monday July 5 for Independence Day.

    • Councilman Green wanted to bring up the opportunity for the city to consider observing Juneteenth as a holiday going forward.
