Jacksonville, AL – Jacksonville State University recognized four employees for their contributions to the university and honored 86 employees for service milestones during its Staff Convocation and Awards Program held Aug. 17 at the Randy Owen Center for the Performing Arts.
The annual program recognizes staff members for service, leadership, school spirit and contributions to the university community. Employees reaching milestones in their years of service to Jax State were also presented with service pins.
Excellence in Service Award
Leah Stuart, Executive Assistant in Academic Affairs, received the Excellence in Service Award. The award recognizes a non-exempt employee who demonstrates exceptional service to others while supporting the university’s mission.
Stuart was recognized for her work with students, faculty and staff, as well as her willingness to take on additional assignments and serve on university task forces.
Gamecock Spirit Award
David Entrekin, Captain with the University Police Department, received the Gamecock Spirit Award.
The award recognizes an employee whose attitude, actions and commitment contribute to the university workplace and campus community. Entrekin was recognized for his professionalism, positive attitude, ability to manage multiple responsibilities and willingness to assist others.
Distinguished Service Award
Kim Turner, Director of Academic Resources & Business Operations in the Office of Academic Affairs, received the Distinguished Service Award.
The award is presented to an exempt employee with at least five years of service whose leadership and sustained contributions have had a significant impact on the university.
Turner was recognized for providing training, mentorship and guidance to administrative professionals and for supporting faculty, staff and administrators across campus.
Friendliest Campus in the South Award
Nick Howard, Associate Director of Printing Services, received the Friendliest Campus in the South Award.
The award recognizes employees who demonstrate customer service and help create a welcoming environment for students, visitors, faculty and staff.
Howard was recognized for his professionalism, responsiveness and work assisting departments with printing projects and other requests across campus.
86 Employees Recognized for Years of Service
In addition to the four annual staff awards, Jacksonville State recognized 86 employees who reached service milestones ranging from 10 to 35 years.
Four employees were recognized for at least three decades of service. Tracy Broom of Athletics and Terry Casey of the President’s Office received 30-year service pins. Dr. Jodi Poe of Academic Affairs and Dr. Greg Bonds of Athletics were recognized for 35 years of service.
