Jacksonville, AL — Jacksonville State University (JSU) has announced a significant reduction in tuition for its Dual Enrollment program, positioning itself among the most affordable options for high school students seeking college credit in Alabama. Beginning Fall 2025, in-state and out-of-state online students enrolled in JSU’s Dual Enrollment courses will pay just $33 per credit hour — a dramatic drop from the previous rate.
The new tuition structure, approved by JSU’s Board of Trustees, brings the cost of a standard 3-hour course to $99. This marks more than an 80% savings and eliminates all fees beyond tuition and textbooks.
JSU President Dr. Don C. Killingsworth, Jr. said the move reflects the university’s commitment to academic access. “This new tuition structure expands opportunities for high school students across Alabama and reflects our continued investment in their academic success and future goals,” Killingsworth stated.
Dual Enrollment at JSU allows high school students to take courses that fulfill both high school and college credit requirements. Students may choose between general studies courses, major-specific “Gateway” courses, or specialized J-STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) classes. Many J-STEAM offerings are eligible for scholarship support.
Courses can be taken either online or in person, and students are not limited in the number of courses they can enroll in at the reduced rate. Current scholarship programs will continue under the new pricing, with existing awards now covering the entire cost of a single 3-credit hour course.
In addition to coursework, Dual Enrollment students at JSU gain access to university-level support services, including orientation, tutoring, academic advising, writing center support, and library resources. Students can also access extracurricular benefits, such as free athletic event admission and access to the recreation and fitness center (with a paid membership).
Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Christie Shelton emphasized JSU’s student-focused mission. “Our student-success oriented faculty are dedicated to supporting students at every step, and we want them to feel welcomed, challenged, and prepared from the very beginning,” she said.
Enrollment for the Fall 2025 Dual Enrollment program is now open, with a priority admissions deadline set for August 13.
