Rep. Rogers Awarded for Commitment to Military Families by Blue Star Families

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Representative Mike Rogers (AL-03), Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, has been named a recipient of the Military Family Champion Award by Blue Star Families, the nation’s largest nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting military and veteran families.

The award recognizes Rogers for his leadership in advancing legislation and initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for service members and their families. His efforts were instrumental in the development and passage of H.R. 5009, the Servicemember Quality of Life Improvement and National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2025.

“I’ve been privileged to have the chance to support America’s service members and their families,” said Rep. Rogers. “The House Armed Services Committee recognized the sacrifices being made by these great Americans and worked hard to improve their quality of life and give them the support and resources they deserve. I’m proud of our achievement and honored by this recognition from Blue Star Families.”

Kathy Roth-Douquet, CEO of Blue Star Families, praised Rogers for his ongoing commitment. “Chairman Rogers has been a tireless advocate for the people who serve and the families who serve alongside them. Thanks to his leadership, the needs of military families are not just being heard — they are being met with action and accountability.”

Under Rogers’ guidance, the FY2025 NDAA included key provisions to support military families, including:

  • A 14.5% pay raise for junior enlisted personnel (E-4 and below), affecting roughly 500,000 service members.

  • A 4.5% pay raise for the remainder of the military.

  • Expansion of military child care capacity and access, including child care fee assistance and increased salaries for care staff.

  • Enhancement of the Basic Needs Allowance to combat food insecurity among low-income military families.

  • Increased support for military spouse employment, including child care for job seekers, easier professional licensure transfers, and continuation of the Military Spouse Career Accelerator Pilot Program.

The recognition underscores a broader national focus on improving the daily lives of service members and their families, an area Rogers and the House Armed Services Committee have made a legislative priority.
