Anniston, AL – The City of Anniston has announced plans to construct a new pump track at Chalk Line Park, located at the intersection of West 14th Street and Grove Street. The project is being made possible through funding from the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program and marks the final phase in the City’s redevelopment of the former Chalk Line Mill property.
Over the past 15 years, the City has worked to repurpose the former industrial site, transforming it into a public space that now houses essential services like the Department of Human Resources (DHR). The addition of the pump track is intended to enhance recreational opportunities and further the site’s role as a community hub.
A pump track is a looped, paved circuit designed for wheeled sports including bicycles, skateboards, scooters, and rollerblades. Built with a series of small hills and banked turns, the track allows riders to maintain speed using body movements rather than pedaling or pushing. The facility is designed to be family-friendly and accessible to users of all ages and skill levels.
The pump track will be located along the Chief Ladiga Trail and adjacent to the Satcher Health & Wellness Trail, connecting it with other recreational assets such as Michael Tucker Park and downtown Anniston. The space will also feature a shaded seating area, and future development plans include bathroom facilities and additional amenities as funding permits.
The bid for construction was awarded to FlowMotion, with work scheduled to begin in July 2025. The project is expected to be completed within three months.
Toby Bennington, Director of Planning & Economic Development, emphasized the broader significance of the project, stating that it reflects the City’s long-term commitment to environmental redevelopment and expanding access to wellness and recreational opportunities.
