Jacksonville, AL – Laura Humphreys, former owner of Redbird Coffeehouse, has officially announced her candidacy for Mayor of Jacksonville. The announcement was made via her personal Facebook page and the Redbird Coffeehouse social media account on June 1, just one day after the coffee shop officially closed its doors.
Humphreys, who operated Redbird Coffeehouse for three and a half years, stated that her decision to run for mayor came after much thought, prayer, and encouragement from community members. While not a Jacksonville native, Humphreys emphasized her deep connection to the city, forged through her time as a local business owner and resident.
“Jacksonville has been my home for the past several years, and it’s a place I’ve come to love deeply,” Humphreys wrote in her announcement. “Many of you know me from The Redbird Coffeehouse… Over the years, I’ve listened to your hopes, your concerns, and your dreams for our city, and I’m ready to take action.”
Humphreys characterized herself as a political newcomer with a focus on transparency, accountability, and community-centered leadership. She emphasized a desire to reflect the values of Jacksonville and to build a city that prioritizes its people.
Her announcement coincides with the closure of Redbird Coffeehouse, a business known for its community-focused mission and pay-what-you-can model. In a farewell message posted online, Humphreys reflected on the space as one of “grief, healing, hope, and joy,” crediting its success to the support of patrons and faith-based values.
Humphreys concluded her campaign announcement by expressing gratitude and promising further updates in the days ahead. She joins a growing field of candidates expected to compete in the upcoming municipal election.
