Jax State’s Punter Jack Dawson and safety Jeremiah Harris are Conference USA’s special-teams and defensive players of the week, respectively, following the Gamecocks’ 17-14 victory over UTEP.

Harris finished with eight tackles and made the game-saving interception on UTEP’s final drive. He jumped the route to pick off Gavin Hardison’s fourth-down pass to Tyrin Smith with 1:15 to play, allowing the Gamecocks to run out the clock.

It marked the third interception of Harris’ career.

Dawson punted five times for an average of 45.8 yards, including two over 50 yards, with a long of 62. He pinned three of kicks inside the opponent’s 20-yard line.

Dawson’s first punt of the season came after the Gamecocks’ opening drive and went 62 yards before being downed at the UTEP 5-yard line. His final two punts, which came in the fourth quarter, were downed inside the Miners’ 20.
