Jacksonville, AL – Jacksonville State University continues to affirm its place as one of Alabama’s leading institutions for college-bound students, ranking fourth in the number of in-state high school graduates enrolled for Fall 2024. This data, released by the Alabama Commission on Higher Education (ACHE), positions Jax State just behind the state’s largest institutions: the University of Alabama, Auburn University, and the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Despite having a significantly smaller overall enrollment of 9,955 students, Jacksonville State ranked among the top destinations for Alabama high school graduates. In comparison, the University of Alabama enrolled 40,846 students, Auburn had 34,145, and UAB enrolled 20,904 for Fall 2024.
Jacksonville State also earned the top spot for high school graduate enrollment in four counties: Calhoun, Cleburne, St. Clair, and Talladega. This strong regional presence reflects the university’s ongoing focus on accessibility and community engagement.
“To be the fourth-most chosen university by Alabama high school students is a point of pride for Jax State,” said President Dr. Don C. Killingsworth, Jr. “We’re committed to providing an accessible, high-quality college experience—especially for students from our surrounding communities, where we continue to see tremendous support and growth.”
The ACHE report also noted a statewide increase in enrollment, with a 2.6% rise in overall headcount across Alabama’s public universities. Jacksonville State’s continued growth is supported by strategic recruitment efforts, expanded academic programs, and a student-centered campus environment.
As one of the state’s most affordable and approachable institutions, Jacksonville State’s consistent in-state enrollment success highlights its growing appeal to students and families across Alabama.
