JACKSONVILLE — To mark the 24th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks, the City of Jacksonville and Jacksonville Parks & Recreation will hold a silent memorial ceremony at Jacksonville City Cemetery on Thursday, September 11, 2025.
The ceremony will begin at 8:30 a.m. with a flag-raising by the Jacksonville State University ROTC. At 8:37 a.m.—the time in Central Standard Time when the Pentagon was struck—a wreath-laying will take place. The observance will conclude at 9:50 a.m., the moment in CST when the Pentagon building collapsed, as the flags are respectfully removed.
Organizers emphasize that the event will be conducted entirely in silence. There will be no speakers, and attendees are asked to participate quietly as a tribute to the lives lost during the attacks. Visitors are welcome to come and go during the 80-minute period while the flags and wreath remain in place.
The ceremony will be held at Jacksonville City Cemetery, located at 910 Church Avenue SE.
