University to Dedicate JSU South Complex

Jacksonville, AL – In a momentous occasion that marks the culmination of years of hard work and dedication, Jacksonville State University is set to dedicate the JSU South Complex, a state-of-the-art teaching facility that will serve as the new home for several important academic programs.

It’s been more than five years since a devastating tornado struck Wallace Hall, the former residence of JSU’s renowned School of Nursing. The impact of that disaster led to 17 semesters of temporary classes being held in the Houston Cole Library. Now, the nationally-ranked School of Nursing is poised for a triumphant reunion at the newly renovated JSU South Complex.

Bear and Sons

The history of JSU South is noteworthy in itself. Originally established in 1976 as Jacksonville Hospital, this 104-bed facility was generously donated to the university by Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center a few months after the tornado wreaked havoc in 2018. Since then, meticulous work has been underway to transform this space into a modern, cutting-edge teaching facility.

The JSU South Complex boasts an impressive array of features that will greatly enhance the learning experience for students, including:

– Four lecture classrooms, each equipped to accommodate up to 125 students.
– Renovated space dedicated to nursing arts and skills labs.
– A student lounge, providing a welcoming area for students to relax and interact.
– Study spaces designed to facilitate academic growth.
– A dining area, complete with a Boar’s Head deli operated by JSU Dining, offering a variety of delicious dining options.

Beyond housing the esteemed School of Nursing, JSU South also provides a home for programs such as Respiratory Therapy, Athletic Training, and the JSU/RMC Student Health Center, all contributing to the holistic development and well-being of the student body.

To mark this momentous occasion, Jacksonville University invites all students, faculty, and staff to join in the ribbon-cutting ceremony, scheduled for Tuesday, October 17th, at 2 p.m. The ceremony will take place in front of JSU South, and it promises to be a celebration of the bright future ahead.

While this event is primarily for the university community, the local residents will have their chance to explore the newly renovated complex as well. An open house event is planned for February, inviting the broader community to discover the remarkable facility and the outstanding academic programs it now houses.

The JSU South Complex is not just a building; it’s a symbol of resilience, progress, and the unwavering commitment to providing students with the best possible education and resources. As it opens its doors, it ushers in a new era for Jacksonville State University, where excellence and innovation continue to flourish.
