JACKSONVILLE – After Jacksonville broke the scoreboard in its season opener with a shorthanded lineup, everyone wanted to know what the Golden Eagles could do with a full complement of players.
The Golden Eagles got half of their football-playing basketball players back Tuesday night, but it doesn’t matter how many players you add if the ball doesn’t go in the basket.
They looked just as sharp as they did in their opener in the first half and opened a nine-point halftime lead, but they went cold in the second and lost to 7A Spain Park 59-52.
Jacksonville got back three of its six football players for the game – twins Cam and Caden Johnson and Quin Long – and with only one formal practice under the belts they combined for 11 points in the first half mixing in with John Broom, Cade Phillips and the rest, but they were held scoreless in the second half.
In fact, the Golden Eagles, who scored 104 points in their opener against Faith Christiaan, scored on 13 points after halftime – three in the third quarter. They were 5-for-21 from the field against the 2-3 zone the Jags switched to at halftime. [**read more]
