Jacksonville, AL – Area teens are invited to experience college-level art and performance activities this summer by enrolling in the Gamecock Arts Summer Program (GASP) scheduled for June 4-9 at Jacksonville State University.
Hosted by the JSU College of Arts and Humanities, GASP provides high school students ages 14-18 the opportunity to further their arts and humanities education in classes and workshops taught by university faculty, staff and students. Each participant selects one of five areas of focus:
- Creative Writing – Foster your craft and develop your skills in the genres of poetry, fiction and nonfiction through workshops, lectures and readings.
- Cosplay – Grow your sewing, design, makeup and pattern-making skills by participating in hands-on costume design projects.
- Film – Get an introduction to the art of film making, including scriptwriting, shooting and lighting for digital film projects.
- Musical Theatre – Actors ages 8-18 will have the opportunity to participate in Jacksonville Opera Theatre’s summer musical, “Cinderella,” while completing voice, choreography and ensemble work. A reduced rate and schedule is offered to musical theatre campers ages 8-13.
- Visual Arts – Gain insight into what it’s like to be a college-level designer and artist.
Residential and commuter options are are offered, each with their own rate – $500 for residential participants and $350 for commuters. Scholarships are available, with applications due March 1. For more information, including registration and scholarship forms, visit www.jsu.edu/gasp.
