Jacksonville, AL – Jacksonville State University’s Outdoor Education class, led by Dr. Kay, is partnering with Jacksonville Parks and Recreation (PARD) to host a special Jax Family Fun Night on Sunday, November 16, at the Jacksonville Community Center.
The event will focus on promoting environmental awareness through interactive outdoor activities while providing a fun, family-friendly atmosphere for the Jacksonville community.
“We wanted to create an event that educates people about the outdoors while also being fun for all ages,” said Davis Scott, one of the student organizers. “This class has taught me so much about environmental appreciation and how to help others see the value of spending time outside.”
Activities will include an outdoor educational hayride, a disc golf demonstration led by Dr. Kay, a nature craft station, and family games and inflatables. Guests will also enjoy live music from the Made U Look Truck, owned by Mark Helms and sponsored by Air Medic and owner Shawn Novitz.
Admission to the event is a canned food donation, which will serve as the required entry cost. All collected food will be donated to the JSU Food Pantry to help local students and families in need.
Sara Melton, Parks and Recreation Event Coordinator, noted that this marks the first time Jacksonville Parks & Recreation and JSU Recreation students have collaborated directly to bring an event to the community.
“The JSU Outdoor Education class of 12 students, along with Dr. Kay, has worked hard to create something meaningful for families,” Melton said. “We hope this partnership continues to grow and inspire more events that combine education, service, and fun.”
The JSU Outdoor Education team and Jacksonville Parks & Recreation invite families from across the area to attend for an evening of outdoor learning, community spirit, and family entertainment.
