Dear Editor,

In a county filled with chain restaurants a quaint Italian place has now been opened! Almost Italy is located just 10 miles away from Oxford in the town of Heflin.

The decor is a stunning mix of a dark moody atmosphere mixed with the vibrant abstract paintings that were done by a local Artist. Every table has been carefully set with actual linen tablecloths and napkins. Diners are invited to wait in a beautifully decorated lounge with comfortable armchairs and thematic artwork or on a wonderful outdoor patio. The wait though is usually not long. We arrived at approximately 7 pm on a Saturday evening. We were greeted by the hostess and shown to our table.

The menu offers a small variety of delicious and mouthwatering starters and main courses that will appeal to youngsters and adults alike. I started with whipped ricotta toast. It was delicious with just a hint of lemon that gave it a nice light taste. My husband had the meatball appetizer. The meatball and sauce were good, but we found the sauce to be a little acidic and the meatball to have a touch more oregano than it needed. The main course included white chicken lasagna for me and Shrimp Alfredo for my husband. The chicken lasagna was good. I personally would have loved it more if more garlic and parmesan was added to it. But that is my taste preference. It was still a very nice meal. My husband loved his shrimp alfredo. His only complaint was that the tails were still on the shrimp. Though that is fine on some dishes, with a saucy dish you really don’t want to have to take off the tails. He also said it could have used a little more shrimp in it. As for the flavor and the texture, it was delicious. Dinner was followed by a slice of cheesecake with homemade raspberry sauce and a cup of coffee. The cheesecake was just the right combination of sweetness and tartness. The coffee had a nice bold flavor. Everything we ate was fresh and delicious.

We were able to have a brief conversation with Michael the owner of Almost Italy. He is a charming gentleman that has been in the restaurant industry for over 25 years. Almost Italy is still in the beginning phase which means the following. The menu, at this time, is limited but there are multiple items to choose from. The liquor license is in the process of being obtained but they have a work around where you can bring your own wine. All in All, I would give this restaurant a 5-star rating. I enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. We will be back, and we wish Michael much success in this endeavor!
