ANNISTON, Ala. — Cyclists from across the region are invited to celebrate Independence Day on two wheels as the Northeast Alabama Bicycle Association (NEABA) hosts its annual Fourth of July Watermelon Ride on Saturday, July 4.
The ride will begin at 7 a.m. from Golden Springs Baptist Church in Anniston and will take participants on a route to Horseblock Mountain before returning to the church.
According to event organizers, the ride includes a significant amount of climbing and will take place on open public roads. Riders are encouraged to wear bright, visible clothing and bring bicycle lights for added safety.
NEABA will provide cold beverages and watermelon at the top of Horseblock Mountain before riders begin the return trip via Alabama Highway 24 and Dearmanville.
The organization notes that this is not a closed-course event, and participants should remain aware of traffic and obey all traffic laws throughout the ride.
