Ohatchee, AL – The Ohatchee Town Council approved a resolution during its February 24 meeting allowing the municipal court to participate in a state-supported debt recovery program designed to assist municipalities in collecting outstanding court-related fines.
The meeting opened with council members approving the minutes from the February 10 work session and regular council meeting. A motion was made, seconded, and approved unanimously.
The primary item on the agenda was Resolution R260202, which establishes a memorandum of understanding and agreement with Intercept Services LLC. The program allows municipalities to submit certain unpaid debts owed to the municipality to the Alabama Department of Revenue for collection, as authorized under Section 40-18-100 of the Code of Alabama 1975.
During discussion, officials stated the resolution would allow the municipality to submit unpaid fines owed to the court through the Alabama Department of Revenue’s intercept system.
A motion was made to approve the resolution, followed by a second. The resolution passed unanimously with no opposition recorded.
With the resolution’s approval, the Ohatchee Municipal Court will now be able to utilize the Intercept Services program to assist in recovering outstanding fines and court-related debts through state-managed collection processes.
Following the vote, council members briefly discussed an upcoming community cleanup effort and updates on a local business preparing to open in town. The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn, which also passed unanimously.
