Ohatchee, AL – The Town of Ohatchee Town Council held a work session and regular council meeting on May 26, with discussions focusing on the town’s upcoming “250 Years Celebration,” community concerns, and public improvement projects.
During the work session, council members discussed plans for the July 3 celebration event, including fireworks, inflatables, food, music, veterans recognition, and children’s activities.
Council members discussed contributing approximately $2,500 toward the fireworks display, with additional sponsorship funding expected from local businesses. Discussions also included inflatables funded through grant support, glow sticks, flags, patriotic music, and free hot dogs, chips, and bottled water for attendees.
The tentative schedule discussed during the work session included activities beginning around 6 p.m., followed by opening remarks, veterans recognition, a speaker, and fireworks later in the evening.
Additional work session discussion focused on community concerns involving trash disposal near Fox Ferry, lighting at Hartselle Park, and potential camera installations in public areas. Council members also discussed a possible grant project for improvements at Hartselle Park that could include lighting, walking trails, piers, asphalt work, and other infrastructure upgrades.
During the regular council meeting, the council approved the minutes from the previous meeting and approved Resolution No. 26-05-02 adopting Act 2026-608 from the Alabama Legislature. The resolution allows the Town of Ohatchee to provide a one-time lump-sum payment to eligible retired town employees and beneficiaries receiving benefits through the Employees’ Retirement System.
The council also formally approved plans related to the town’s July 3 celebration event during the regular meeting.
