Oxford, AL – City leaders from Oxford recently joined representatives from Oxford Health Systems and UAB Medicine for a tour of the UAB Gardendale Freestanding Emergency Department as planning continues for a future freestanding emergency department in Oxford.
According to city officials, Mayor Alton Craft, Councilmember Phil Gardner, and members of the City of Oxford team visited the facility to gain firsthand insight into the healthcare model being planned for the Oxford community.
During the visit, city leaders toured the Gardendale facility and observed how a freestanding emergency department operates. Officials said the visit focused on understanding efficient emergency services, patient-centered care, and modern healthcare delivery methods designed to support growing communities.
The City of Oxford continues to collaborate with Oxford Health Systems and UAB Medicine on plans to expand access to healthcare services for Oxford residents and surrounding areas. The proposed project includes a freestanding emergency department along with physician clinics aimed at increasing local access to advanced medical care.
Tom Dixon, CEO of Oxford Health Systems, said the visit provided leaders with an opportunity to see how the model serves communities through efficient and high-quality emergency care.
“During our visit to Gardendale, we were able to see firsthand how a freestanding emergency department serves a community through efficient, high-quality emergency care delivered in a patient-focused environment,” Dixon said. “Every aspect of the visit reinforced our shared vision for what we seek to bring to Oxford.”
Dixon added that the future Oxford facility and physician clinics would represent “a significant investment in healthcare access for our region,” bringing advanced emergency services and UAB Medicine resources closer to residents in the area.
City officials also expressed appreciation to the team at the UAB Gardendale Freestanding Emergency Department for hosting the visit and sharing information as planning efforts continue for the future healthcare expansion in Oxford.
