OXFORD, AL — The Oxford City Council approved several measures Tuesday, Aug. 11, including a new requirement for vacant commercial property registration, adoption of a citywide bike and pedestrian plan, and reimbursement for infrastructure related to new business development.
The council also received a $40,000 donation from Oxford Baseball for Youth. The funds are designated for capital improvements at Earl Martin Park.
Council members unanimously approved Ordinance No. 2026-26, which amends Chapter 47, “Health and Sanitation,” of the city’s Code of Ordinances to require the registration of vacant commercial properties. The ordinance passed by a 5-0 vote.
The council also unanimously approved its consent agenda, which included three resolutions.
Resolution No. 2026-63 adopts a Bike and Pedestrian Plan for the City of Oxford. Resolution No. 2026-64 authorizes the mayor to enter into an agreement with Simple Grants for professional services related to an application for an Outdoor Recreation Legacy Program Grant and to sign the application and necessary documents. Resolution No. 2026-65 declares certain city equipment surplus and authorizes its sale or disposal.
The council additionally approved Resolution No. 2026-66, reimbursing Oxford Water Works $194,191.70 for new business infrastructure.
A public hearing was scheduled for Aug. 25 to consider condemnation of property at 1214 Barry Street. The hearing will coincide with the council’s next regular meeting.
