Oxford, AL – The Oxford City Council unanimously approved all items on its agenda during its regular meeting held Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at Oxford City Hall.
The meeting opened with an invocation from Greg Turner of Oxford First Baptist Church, followed by approval of the April 28, 2026 meeting minutes.
During the meeting, the council recognized two promotions within the Oxford Police Department. Josh Miller was promoted to Deputy Chief, and Brett Williams was promoted to Lieutenant. City officials acknowledged both officers for their leadership, dedication, and continued service to the Oxford community.
Several public hearings were also held regarding zoning requests throughout the city. The council considered requests involving properties on Sterling Pointe Lane, Coldwater Road, Beck Road, and U.S. Highway 78.
Following the public hearings, the council unanimously approved four zoning ordinances:
- Ordinance No. 2026-10 rezoning property at 103 Sterling Pointe Lane from Light Manufacturing District (M-1) to Central Business District (CBD)
- Ordinance No. 2026-11 rezoning property at 1615 Coldwater Road from General Business District (GB) to Residential 1 District (R-1)
- Ordinance No. 2026-12 rezoning property at 817 Beck Road from Agricultural District (AG) to Residential 2 District (R-2)
- Ordinance No. 2026-13 zoning property at 53184 U.S. Highway 78 as General Manufacturing District (M-2)
The council also unanimously approved the evening’s consent agenda, which included several resolutions related to appointments, property negotiations, engineering and appraisal services, grant matters, and upcoming events.
Among the approved resolutions were the reappointment of Karen Phillips to the Oxford Board of Education, authorization of a sponsorship agreement with BassTactix Alabama for the 2027 BassTactix State Championship on Logan Martin Lake, and authorization for consulting and design services at Oxford Lake Park.
Additional approved items included the appointment of Adam Maniscalco as Municipal Court Prosecutor and Sheila Field as Municipal Court Appellate Prosecutor, as well as authorization to terminate certain grant agreements and reimburse grant funds to ADECA.
The next regular meeting of the Oxford City Council is scheduled for May 26, 2026.
