Oxford City Council to Review Bike and Pedestrian Route Study Results During Special Session

Oxford, AL – The City of Oxford will receive the results of the “Oxford on the Move: A Plan for Bike and Pedestrian Route” study during a special council session scheduled for 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at Oxford City Hall.

The presentation will be delivered by Sain Associates, the firm responsible for developing the comprehensive plan. The study incorporates public input gathered through community surveys and a public forum held on February 15, 2025. These opportunities allowed residents to share information about where they currently walk and bike, as well as areas where they would like to see expanded access.

The plan focuses on evaluating opportunities for improved bicycle and pedestrian connections across local roadways throughout Oxford. It aims to identify potential routes and infrastructure enhancements that could support walking and cycling across the city and connect key areas.

City officials say the study is intended to help guide long-term planning efforts as Oxford considers future transportation and recreation improvements. Mayor Alton Craft emphasized the importance of planning ahead for potential funding opportunities.

“Transportation projects can be costly, and available funding sources can be ever-changing,” Craft said. “Oxford, with the support of our citizens and city council, have chosen to plan ahead in preparation for opportunities to add walking and biking amenities.”

The special session will provide city leaders and the public with an overview of the study’s findings and recommendations as Oxford continues exploring ways to enhance mobility and connectivity for residents.
