OXFORD, AL — The Oxford City Council approved a series of zoning ordinance amendments, a property rezoning request, and several administrative resolutions during its regular meeting on June 9. Council member Phil Gardner was not present for the meeting.
The council unanimously approved eight ordinances addressing various sections of the city’s zoning ordinance and municipal code. The measures included amendments related to accessory structures, residential districts, parking requirements, planned development standards and electrical regulations. Prior to the votes, public hearings were held on the proposed zoning ordinance amendments and a rezoning request.
Among the approved ordinances was Ordinance No. 2026-21, which rezones property located at 2414 Gunnels Lane as Residential 1 District (R-1). The council also approved Ordinance No. 2026-22, amending the city’s electrical code requirements.
All eight ordinances passed by a 4-0 vote.
The council also approved its consent agenda by a 4-0 vote. Actions included:
- Authorizing Mayor Alton Craft to accept a bid from Jack Green Oil Company for the purchase of gasoline and diesel fuel.
- Placing a municipal lien totaling $15,725.81 on property located at 1750 E. Hamric Drive.
- Appointing Marc Webb to the Zoning Board of Adjustments.
- Reappointing David Ford to the Highland Health Systems Board.
- Authorizing the city’s participation in the Employees Retirement System of Alabama’s one-time lump-sum payment program for retirees and beneficiaries of deceased retirees scheduled for October 2026.
- Granting permanent and temporary utility easements to the Oxford Water Works and Sewer Board.
- Approving a short-term rental at 907 Edgewood Drive.
- Authorizing the disposal of unneeded personal property.
The council’s next regular meeting is scheduled for June 23, 2026.
