Hobson City, AL — The Fort Payne Police Department Chief, David Davis, issued a press release regarding a call for service on November 9, 2025, at approximately 5:59 p.m. for possible shots fired. Upon arrival at the Fort Payne Housing Authority Complex, Fort Payne officers located two victims in the kitchen with gunshot wounds. After securing the apartment, officers rendered aid until medical personnel arrived on scene. Life-saving measures were unsuccessful, and both victims were later pronounced deceased. The victims were identified as Alisha Nichole Keller, age 27, and Logan Cordale Brown, age 24, both of Fort Payne.
During the preliminary investigation, it was learned that the suspected shooter of both victims was Oxford, AL resident Jacob Eugene Mitchum, 27 years old. Investigators also learned that Mitchum had already left the area and was possibly driving back to Oxford. Fort Payne investigators coordinated with the Oxford Police Department and the East Metro Area Crime Center (EMACC). The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office also received the BOLO regarding the suspect and vehicle and assisted with the search. Calhoun County Sheriff Falon Hurst stated, “My deputies started utilizing intelligence sources available to them and learned the suspect vehicle may be located in Hobson City in a parking lot. Deputies went to the location and identified the vehicle, but as they entered the parking lot, the suspect tried to drive away. Deputies rapidly conducted a traffic stop, and Mitchum surrendered without further incident.” Sheriff Hurst also advised that Oxford Police arrived on scene and assisted with the arrest of Mitchum.
Fort Payne investigators proceeded to Oxford and took custody of Mitchum, where he was immediately transported back to the Fort Payne Police Department, where he was questioned. Mitchum was processed into the DeKalb County Jail and was brought before a judge on Monday, November 10, 2025, for his first appearance. No bond was set for Mitchum, and he remains in custody in the DeKalb County Jail.
Fort Payne Police Chief Davis stated, “The Fort Payne Police Department would like to thank the Oxford Police Department, EMACC, the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, and Jacksonville State University Center for Applied Forensics for their help and quick response to this incident.”
Calhoun County Sheriff Hurst said, “I am proud of my deputies for taking the initiative to utilize all the resources available to them to locate this dangerous individual. I am also happy that we were able to assist another agency in getting a bad guy off our streets.”
