Investigators determined that the shooting occurred in the parking lot of Magnolia Apartments, located along Alabama Highway 69 South.
Authorities identified two Oxford residents, 20-year-old Kurtae’vious Earl Tyson and 20-year-old Daronte Collins, as suspects in an alleged robbery attempt involving a 25-year-old Tuscaloosa resident.
According to investigators, gunfire was exchanged during the encounter. Tyson sustained critical injuries and was later pronounced dead.
Following the investigation, Collins was arrested and charged with felony murder, first-degree robbery, attempted murder and shooting into an occupied vehicle.
Alabama law allows individuals to face felony murder charges when a death occurs during the commission or attempted commission of certain felonies, even when the person charged is not accused of directly causing the fatal injury.
Collins is being held without bond at the Tuscaloosa County Jail under provisions of Aniah’s Law, which allows courts to deny bail for individuals charged with certain violent offenses.
