Calhoun County, AL – The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating recent property crimes and is calling on the public for help. By encouraging community involvement, the Sheriff’s Office hopes to improve public safety and hold those accountable for these criminal activities.
Property Crime: On Oct. 2, deputies responded to a call outside of Piedmont where an AT&T work crew reported that newly installed fiber‑optic cable at a US‑278 worksite had been cut down overnight and left on the ground. Supervisors with the company told deputies that the latest incident was consistent with past attempts where thieves return later to retrieve the material. A rope was found tied to a nearby tree, likely used to climb and cut the lines. Nothing was reported stolen at this time, but the property damage was significant.
