Oxford, AL – The Oxford Performing Arts Center will present a chamber music performance featuring cellist Julian Schwarz and pianist Marika Bournaki on Tuesday, February 10, at 7 p.m. The event will take place at the venue’s downtown Oxford location at 100 E. Choccolocco St.
The concert is presented as part of the Community Foundation of Northeast Alabama Chamber Music Series, highlighting accomplished artists and intimate classical performances for regional audiences.
Schwarz and Bournaki first met as students at the Aspen Music Festival in 2006. Their paths crossed again through international study and performance, including at the Verbier Festival in Switzerland and while attending the Juilliard School in New York City. They formally began collaborating as a duo in 2014.
The pair made their recital debut together at the Austrian Embassy in Washington DC as part of the Embassy Series. In 2016, they received first prize at the inaugural Boulder International Chamber Music Competition in the “The Art of Duo” category.
Now married, Schwarz and Bournaki continue to perform internationally, known for dynamic interpretations and technically demanding programs that showcase both instruments equally. The Oxford performance offers local audiences an opportunity to experience the duo’s chamber music collaboration in a live setting.
